Galaxy S26 FE Price and Specs: Samsung Landed at $699, Not $799
Key takeaways
- The Galaxy S26 FE launched at $699, a hundred dollars below the widely reported $799 figure, with general availability from 4 September
- Specs are an Exynos 2500, 6.7in AMOLED at 1,900 nits, 8GB RAM, 50MP main camera, 4,900mAh battery and IP68, on Android 17 with One UI 9
- Seven years of OS and security updates is the figure that changes cost per year of ownership, not the chipset
Samsung made the Galaxy S26 FE official this morning, and the price is the part nobody predicted correctly. It lands at $699. The figure doing the rounds all week was $799. General availability starts 4 September.
Galaxy S26 FE price and specs, now confirmed
The spec sheet is close to what leaked:
- 6.7 inch AMOLED, 120Hz, 1,900 nits peak brightness
- Exynos 2500 with 8GB of RAM
- 128GB base storage
- 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 8MP telephoto at 3x optical, 16MP front
- 4,900mAh battery, 45W wired charging
- IP68, Android 17 with One UI 9
- Blueberry, Graphite and Pistachio
The Exynos 2500 is the line people will argue about. Samsung silicon in the FE tier is not new, and it is the usual trade: a chip that benchmarks below the Snapdragon in the flagship models, in exchange for a price that undercuts them by several hundred dollars.
Seven years of updates is the number that matters
Samsung confirmed seven years of OS and security updates. On a $699 handset that works out at roughly $100 a year, if you actually keep it that long.
That quietly rewrites what a cheap phone means. What made budget handsets a false economy was never the camera, it was the two year support cliff that forced a replacement while the hardware was still fine. A seven year window on a mid-tier device removes it. Whether Samsung honours the full term on an FE model rather than a flagship is the open question, and there is no way to know for a few years yet.
The same pattern is showing up across mid-range hardware, where the Snapdragon C in the Acer Aspire Go 15 competes on longevity and battery rather than benchmark wins. Apple has been playing a version of the same game with the Mac mini M6.
What to watch next
Two things. First, whether $699 holds outside the US, because European pricing on the previous FE sat above a straight conversion. Second, real world battery figures on the Exynos 2500, since 4,900mAh and 45W only mean something once somebody has run the thing flat.
If you are buying, note that Samsung has not included a charger in the box since the S21 generation, and 45W charging needs a 45W brick to hit its rated speed. The official Samsung 45W Super Fast Charger 2.0 is the safe option if you do not already own one.
