Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Future Technology ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects your personal data when you visit futuretechnologyhq.com (the "Site") or when you interact with our services, including our TikTok content publishing integration. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently and lawfully.
Future Technology is operated by Future Technology, based in London, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Future Technology is the data controller.
What data we collect
Analytics data
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-VBW3PC4Y34) and Umami, a privacy-focused, self-hosted analytics tool, to understand how visitors use the Site. These services collect anonymised usage data including pages visited, time on site, referring URLs, approximate geographic location, device type, browser type and operating system. Google Analytics may set cookies on your device (see the Cookies section below). IP addresses are anonymised before processing.
Newsletter subscriptions
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. Our newsletter is managed through Listmonk (self-hosted) and delivered via Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) as our SMTP provider. Your email address is stored on our self-hosted Listmonk instance and is shared with Brevo solely for the purpose of delivering emails. We do not sell, rent or share your email address with any other third parties.
TikTok API integration
We use the TikTok Content Posting API to publish original video content (short-form reels) to our own brand TikTok account (@futuretechnologyhq). In connection with this integration, we access and process the following data through the TikTok API:
- Account information: Basic TikTok account details (display name, avatar, follower count) for our own brand account only, used to verify the connection and confirm successful publishing.
- Video content: Original video files created by our internal content pipeline are uploaded to TikTok via their API. These videos are original content produced by Future Technology and are not sourced from third parties or other users.
- Publishing metadata: Video titles, descriptions and privacy settings submitted alongside each upload.
This integration is used exclusively for our own single brand account. We do not access, collect or store TikTok data from any other users. No end-user TikTok data is collected, processed or stored by this integration.
Information we do not collect
We do not require you to create an account. We do not collect names, phone numbers, payment details or any other personal information beyond what is described above. We do not use comment systems or contact forms that store personal data on the Site. We do not collect or access TikTok data from any user other than our own brand account.
How we use your data
We use the data we collect for the following purposes:
- To understand how visitors use the Site and to improve our content and user experience (analytics data).
- To send you our newsletter if you have subscribed, and to manage your subscription preferences (email address).
- To publish original video content to our TikTok brand account as part of our content distribution strategy (TikTok API data).
We process your data on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR: consent (for newsletter subscriptions and non-essential cookies) and legitimate interests (for analytics, where our interest in understanding site usage does not override your rights; and for TikTok content publishing, which involves only our own brand account data).
Cookies
The Site uses the following types of cookies:
- Essential cookies: Cloudflare may set cookies required for security, performance and content delivery. These are strictly necessary for the Site to function.
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga and _gid) to distinguish unique visitors and track sessions. These cookies expire after up to two years.
- Self-hosted analytics (Umami): Umami uses a lightweight session identifier to count page views without tracking you across sites or sessions. No personal data is stored by this tool.
- Consent cookie: If you interact with the cookie consent banner, a cookie called ft_cookie_consent is set to remember your preference. This cookie expires after one year.
- Newsletter cookies: If you interact with our newsletter subscription form, Listmonk may set a cookie to manage your session.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. When you first visit the Site, a cookie consent banner lets you choose whether to accept analytics cookies. If you accept, a cookie called ft_cookie_consent stores your preference for up to one year. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser cookies or using the cookie settings option. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the Site.
Data storage and security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the data we process:
- Website data: The Site is served via Cloudflare, which provides SSL/TLS encryption for all connections. Analytics data is stored in Google Analytics and our self-hosted Umami analytics instance.
- Newsletter data: Subscriber email addresses are stored on our self-hosted Listmonk instance, which is access-controlled and regularly updated.
- TikTok API credentials: OAuth tokens and API credentials used for our TikTok integration are stored securely on our private server infrastructure. These credentials are not exposed publicly, are not committed to version control, and are accessible only to authorised administrators. Access tokens are refreshed according to TikTok's token lifecycle and expired tokens are discarded. No TikTok user data beyond our own brand account information is stored.
- Video content: Original video files are stored temporarily on our server during the upload process and may be retained for archival purposes. These files contain only our own original content.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services, each of which may process limited data as described:
- Cloudflare: Provides DNS, CDN and security services. Cloudflare processes request data (including IP addresses) to deliver and protect the Site. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC): Processes anonymised analytics data. See Google's privacy policy.
- Brevo (Sendinblue): Processes email addresses for newsletter delivery. See Brevo's privacy policy.
- TikTok (ByteDance): We use the TikTok Content Posting API to publish original video content to our brand account. This involves transmitting video files and metadata to TikTok's servers. Only our own brand account data is accessed. See TikTok's privacy policy and TikTok's API privacy policy guidelines.
- Amazon Associates: Some articles contain affiliate links to Amazon (associate tag: futuretech0d6-21). If you click an affiliate link, Amazon may set cookies on your device to track referrals. We receive a small commission on qualifying purchases, but Amazon does not share your personal data with us. See Amazon's privacy notice.
Social media
We maintain accounts on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube. Content is published to our TikTok account via the TikTok Content Posting API (see "TikTok API integration" above). The Site may contain links to these platforms. We do not embed social media tracking pixels or widgets on the Site. If you follow a link to one of these platforms, their own privacy policies will apply.
Data retention
Analytics data is retained for 14 months in Google Analytics, after which it is automatically deleted. Umami analytics data is retained for up to 24 months. Newsletter subscriber email addresses are retained for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your email address is removed from our active mailing list within 30 days. TikTok API access tokens are retained only for as long as they remain valid and are discarded upon expiration or revocation. Published video content remains on TikTok according to TikTok's own data retention policies.
International data transfers
Some of the third-party services we use (Google, Amazon, TikTok/ByteDance) are based outside the United Kingdom. Where your data is transferred outside the United Kingdom, we rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses to ensure an appropriate level of protection.
