iPhone Ultra Price: Apple Is Reportedly Asking 2,400 Dollars

2,400 dollars. That is where reporting on the iPhone Ultra price has settled, and if the number holds, Apple's first foldable will be the most expensive iPhone the company has ever sold by a wide margin.

The event itself is confirmed. Apple has scheduled "Surprise and Shine" for Wednesday 9 September at 10:00 Pacific, at Apple Park. Three phones are expected: the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable that reporting has settled on calling iPhone Ultra.

What the iPhone Ultra is supposed to be

A passport-style book fold. Roughly a 5.5 inch cover display, opening to about 7.8 inches inside at close to 4:3. The hinge is reported to use liquid metal with ultra-thin glass over it, which is Apple's answer to the crease that has followed every folding phone since the first Galaxy Fold.

Supply is expected to be tight. Reporting points to a US-only launch in two colours, white and indigo. That is a limited release wearing flagship clothes.

The iPhone Ultra price is the actual story

2,400 dollars buys a well-specified laptop. It is roughly double what a current Pro Max costs, and it arrives in a year when memory and component pricing is climbing rather than falling. Apple is not absorbing that pressure quietly. It is passing it to a product with no demand history to price against.

There is no comparison point inside Apple's own range either. The most expensive iPhone to date sits well below this. So the question on Wednesday is not whether the crease is visible at arm's length. It is whether enough people will pay laptop money for a phone that folds.

The Pro models get a quieter year

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max look like a maintenance release next to that. A variable aperture main camera, a smaller Dynamic Island, and Apple's own C2 modem replacing Qualcomm silicon. All three phones, foldable included, run the A20 Pro on a 2nm process.

The modem matters more than the spec sheet suggests. Apple has spent years and a great deal of money trying to get off Qualcomm, and the C2 is the second generation of that effort reaching a flagship.

What to watch on Wednesday

This is the first keynote under John Ternus, and the pricing segment is the part to watch. Specifically, whether Apple says a number on stage or lets it appear quietly on the store page afterwards.

The component picture is worth holding alongside it. Memory prices and the wider semiconductor revenue forecast both point the same direction, which is up. If 2,400 dollars holds, it tells you as much about what components now cost as it does about Apple's ambitions for a folding phone.
