TSMC just doubled down on the AI boom
The world's most important chipmaker is not slowing down. TSMC, the company that actually manufactures the chips inside almost every AI system, reported record quarterly revenue and a 77% jump in net income, then raised its outlook for the year. Capital spending is now set at 60 to 64 billion dollars for 2026, and revenue growth is projected above 40%.
The headline number is even bigger: TSMC is pouring another 100 billion dollars into its Arizona manufacturing, bringing its total US investment there to 265 billion. That is one of the largest single manufacturing commitments in tech history, and it is a bet that demand for cutting edge chips keeps climbing for years.
Roughly a quarter of TSMC's revenue this year is expected to come from AI chips alone, on track to top 40 billion dollars.
Why it matters: When TSMC raises its spending, it is effectively forecasting how much AI compute the world will build. A 100 billion dollar Arizona expansion means more advanced chips, more of them made outside Taiwan, and a supply chain betting that the AI wave has years left to run.
