Morning. Today the biggest story isn't a gadget, it's paperwork: OpenAI wants to go public, and it isn't alone. Plus a $20 bot that does your meeting admin, three new models in a week, and a free Microsoft tool worth stealing.
OpenAI filed to go public, and Anthropic got there first
OpenAI confirmed on 8 June that it filed a confidential draft IPO with the SEC. Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan are reportedly running it, with bankers eyeing a debut as early as September.
The valuation chatter is the wild part. Reports put it between $730 billion and $850 billion, and a few analysts reckon it tops $1 trillion once the books open. OpenAI is playing it cool, saying the timing is undecided and a listing "may be a while" off.
Here's what makes it bigger than one company. Anthropic, the maker of Claude, filed weeks earlier at a reported $965 billion. So the two biggest names in AI are heading for the public markets at roughly the same time.
Why it matters: An IPO hands the price tag to everyone, not just a room of investors who all want the number to go up. If both list within months, we get a real market verdict on whether AI's revenue justifies the spending, and the filings will show us, in writing, what running these models actually costs.
