ChatGPT falls below half the global AI assistant market
For the first time, ChatGPT holds less than half the global AI assistant market. Its share fell to 46.4 percent, with Google Gemini rising to 27.7 percent and Anthropic's Claude reaching 10.3 percent.
ChatGPT is still comfortably the leader, so this is not a collapse. It is the difference between a category that is one product and a category that is a genuine market with several strong players, which is healthier for everyone who uses these tools.
Competition is why prices keep falling, context windows keep growing, and features ship faster. Gemini's deep integration across Google products and Claude's strength with developers and enterprises are pulling real usage, and that pressure lands as better products for the rest of us.
Our take: if you standardised on one assistant a year ago and have not looked since, run the same five real tasks through all three this week. The gaps that justified picking a single winner have narrowed, and you may be paying for the wrong one.
